What is MCA settlement?
MCA settlement is an agreement intended to resolve a merchant cash advance obligation for an accepted amount, potentially less than the full claimed balance. The written agreement determines what must be paid, when it is due, and which obligations are released after its conditions are met.
A settlement proposal is not an accepted settlement. Submitting an offer, requesting a consultation or enrolling with a provider does not itself change your existing agreement.
For the broader picture, compare MCA relief options before deciding whether settlement addresses the problem you need to solve.
Is a settlement review relevant to you?
A review may be useful if you have existing MCA obligations and need to understand a proposed payoff, limited settlement funds or the effect of multiple advances.
- You have received an MCA settlement offer.
- You want to compare a payoff with payment restructuring.
- You have several funders and need to understand each obligation.
- Payments are current, behind or in collections, and you need a situation-specific review.
These are reasons to seek a review, not eligibility criteria or a promise of acceptance.
Settlement, restructuring or consolidation?
A reduced balance and a reduced weekly payment are different outcomes. Compare both the full cost and the effect on operating cash.
| Option | Main objective | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| MCA debt settlement | An agreed payoff that resolves the covered obligation. | Settlement amount, fees, deadlines, release conditions and consequences of a missed settlement payment. |
| MCA restructuring | Change payment terms on existing obligations. | New schedule, total repayment, added costs and written funder acceptance. |
| MCA consolidation | Combine or coordinate obligations, depending on the arrangement. | Whether it creates new financing, which balances are paid off, and the total cost. |
| Contractual reconciliation | Review whether remittances can be adjusted to actual receipts under the agreement. | The contract's requirements, supporting records and the funder's response. |
If the immediate issue is withdrawals rather than a payoff, explore options for lowering daily and weekly MCA payment pressure.

What to review in an MCA settlement offer
Know the full payment obligation.
Identify the claimed balance, settlement amount, all provider fees and payment deadlines. Ask whether the proposal requires a lump sum or installments and what happens if an installment is missed.
Know exactly what is resolved.
Confirm the covered business, funder, account and obligations. Ask qualified counsel to review release language, guarantees, any pending lawsuit and any agreed lien or UCC filing actions.
Know what must happen first.
Clarify whether the offer is accepted in writing, who can accept it, when funds are due and when the release becomes effective. Do not treat a salesperson's projected outcome as funder acceptance.

How to compare MCA debt settlement companies
The right questions reveal more than an advertised savings percentage. Ask each provider to explain its role, compensation, process and what remains uncertain.
- Who does the work? Identify the company you contract with and who handles funder discussions or legal matters.
- What will I pay? Request the fee basis, payment timing, cancellation terms and treatment of funds if negotiations fail.
- What has been accepted? Separate an illustration from an offer accepted by the funder.
- How are risks addressed? Ask about collections, default provisions, guarantees, lawsuits and possible credit or tax effects.
- How are results documented? Ask for relevant, substantiated examples without assuming another business's outcome predicts yours.

How the MCA settlement review process works
Start with the complete picture.
Gather agreements, recent balance or payoff statements, payment records, receipts and essential expenses. Identify every advance and any legal or collection notices.
Compare the available approaches.
Discuss your objectives, available funds and account status. A qualified provider can assess whether to explore settlement, payment changes or another approach; an attorney should address legal exposure.
Examine a specific proposal.
Compare the total cost, funding requirements, written terms and consequences if the arrangement is not completed. Each funder may respond differently.
Understand completion requirements.
If an agreement is reached, follow its written requirements and retain payment records and completion documents. Confirm any releases and filing actions specified in that agreement.
There is no universal completion deadline. See what affects an MCA settlement timeline.
MCA debt settlement questions
Can merchant cash advance debt be settled?
A funder may agree to resolve an obligation through settlement, but acceptance depends on the facts and the parties involved. Neither a consultation nor enrollment guarantees a reduced payoff. A written agreement should specify what payment and other conditions resolve the covered obligation.
What is a reasonable MCA settlement percentage?
There is no reliable percentage we can promise for your account. Claimed balances, disputes, collection status, available funds, contract terms and funder decisions differ. Compare the full proposal and fees rather than treating an advertised average as an offer available to you.
Can I make an MCA settlement offer while payments are current?
You can ask about your options while current. Whether a funder will consider or accept a proposal is separate. Do not deliberately miss payments to try to qualify; understand your agreement and seek qualified advice before changing payment arrangements.
Should I stop MCA withdrawals during negotiations?
Negotiations alone do not authorize you to stop withdrawals or change contractual obligations. Review what to consider before stopping MCA withdrawals and obtain legal advice about default and enforcement risks before acting.
How much do MCA debt settlement companies charge?
Fees depend on the provider and agreement. Ask whether charges are fixed or percentage-based, what amount a percentage applies to, when payment is due and what happens if no settlement is reached. MCA Shield's consultation is free; third-party services may carry fees.
Can multiple or stacked MCAs be settled together?
Multiple obligations can be reviewed, but each account needs attention. An agreement with one funder does not bind another. Ask how a provider coordinates proposals, payments and fees across accounts and what remains unresolved.
Does settlement remove a personal guarantee or UCC filing?
Do not assume either is automatically removed. The agreement, applicable law and required follow-up actions matter. Have an attorney review exactly which parties and obligations are released and any provisions for UCC termination or other filings.
Is an MCA settlement offer the same as consolidation?
No. Settlement seeks an agreed resolution of a covered obligation. Consolidation may involve new financing or coordinated handling of existing accounts. Compare MCA consolidation options and determine whether a proposal creates new debt.
Can settlement affect taxes or credit?
There may be tax, credit or future-financing consequences depending on the transaction and your circumstances. Ask a qualified tax professional and the provider about the proposed arrangement rather than assuming there will be no effect.
