Is altLINE a potential fit?
Worth researching: a B2B company with unpaid commercial invoices that wants to compare a bank-operated factoring provider, especially businesses in staffing, freight, manufacturing, wholesale, professional services or other industries where customers commonly pay on terms.
Compare carefully: universal minimum revenue, minimum factoring volume, maximum facility, standard contract length, personal-guarantee rules and treatment of existing MCA/UCC liens were not publicly verified. Recourse and UCC terms are confirmed for certain industry programs but should not automatically be applied to every altLINE agreement.

altLINE Reviews & Trustpilot: what customers report
The primary altLINE Trustpilot profile provides the largest independently hosted review sample identified in the research. A separate Southern Bank profile exists and should be kept separate rather than combined into one score.
69 reviews
The matched profile identifies altLINE by The Southern Bank Company in Birmingham. The profile is claimed and Trustpilot indicates that the company invites reviews.
4 reviews in the research snapshot
This related profile concerns the parent bank. It should not be merged with the main altLINE review count or score.
No BBB customer-review average
BBB displayed zero customer reviews, so there was no BBB customer-review star rating to report.
Recurring positive themes
Communication & account support
Several Trustpilot reviewers describe responsive representatives, professional communication and accessible account managers. Individual reviews are customer accounts, not independently audited performance data.
Working-capital and payroll support
Reviewers describe using the company for cash-flow and payroll needs, and some praise pricing. Review comments do not establish the company’s average rate or approval outcomes.
Negative and mixed themes
Onboarding / administrative delays
A November 2025 Trustpilot reviewer described delays involving advance payments for new customers and an entity change while otherwise rating the service positively.
Marketing communications
A January 2026 one-star reviewer complained about promotional emails. The company responded publicly and offered help with removal from the mailing list.
Review interpretation: the visible Trustpilot reviews are predominantly positive, but the review count is still modest and some reviews were invited. Do not use this sample to infer an approval rate, average funding speed or guaranteed customer experience.

altLINE BBB rating, accreditation & complaints
BBB identifies the business as “altLINE The Southern Bank Company” and provides separate business-rating, accreditation, customer-review and complaint information.
BBB Accredited
BBB shows an A+ business rating and accreditation since October 19, 2017.
One complaint in the preceding three years
The research snapshot also showed one complaint in the preceding 12 months. BBB displayed the status as Answered.
No customer-review score
BBB displayed zero customer reviews, so its A+ business rating should not be described as an A+ customer rating.
What the published BBB complaint said
The September 25, 2025 complaint alleged that an application-related record remained in a third-party system after the complainant said they had not accepted funding, and that reaching a previous company contact was difficult. altLINE responded on October 6, 2025, explained that the prior employee had left and provided another contact. On October 9, the complainant acknowledged speaking with a representative and said progress was being made. BBB displayed the matter as Answered, not Resolved.
This is an allegation and company response published by BBB—not a regulatory finding or court determination.
BBB accreditation is not an endorsement. BBB business ratings, complaint handling and customer reviews are different data points and should be evaluated separately.

altLINE factoring rates, fees & advance percentages
altLINE publishes more fee detail than many factoring providers, but pricing is customized. The figures below are published ranges and examples—not guaranteed contract terms.
Typical published range
The company generally describes advancing 80% to 90% of eligible invoice value, with the remainder released after customer payment minus applicable fees.
Published general range
Actual pricing depends on invoice volume, days outstanding, customer credit, debtor concentration and other underwriting factors.
Typical published range
The company says it can occasionally charge up to 1% of the credit-line amount instead. Confirm the actual fee in the agreement.
| Cost / feature | Published information | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Initial factoring fee | Generally 0.5%–3.0%. | Your customized starting rate, incremental schedule and total dollar cost under your customer-payment timing. |
| Advance rate | Generally 80%–90% for standard factoring. | Exact advance, reserve percentage and reserve-release timing. |
| ACH transfer | $0–$3 published. | Whether your specific agreement uses ACH charges and how often. |
| Wire transfer | $15–$30 published. | Current wire amount and whether it varies by request. |
| Lockbox fee | None advertised in current pricing guide. | Confirm there is no separate monitoring or account-administration charge in your contract. |
| Monthly access fee | None advertised. | Do not confuse this with a possible monthly minimum-volume or minimum-fee provision. |
| Customer credit approvals | $0 published. | Confirm whether any specialized due-diligence fees apply to your program. |
| Same-day funding surcharge | None advertised. | Confirm funding method and any wire charge. |
| Renewal fee | None advertised in pricing guide. | Confirm contract renewal provisions and any minimums or termination charge separately. |
How incremental factoring fees can change the total cost
altLINE’s educational pricing example shows an initial 1.5% fee for the first 30 days, increasing by 0.5 percentage points for each additional 10-day period in that example. A customer paying on day 35 would produce a 2.0% fee in the illustration; day 45 would be 2.5%; day 75 would be 4.0%.
This is an educational example, not your quote. A factoring percentage is not automatically an APR. Ask for the fee schedule, advance, reserve and total dollar cost using your expected invoice amount and customer-payment cycle.
Industry-specific published ranges
Freight factoring
Approximately 0.90%–3.50% published, with near-full advances commonly described for freight.
Manufacturing factoring
Initial fee of approximately 0.90%–3.50%, with published incremental-fee examples.
Payroll funding
Typically 1.0%–3.5% of invoice value when paid within 45 days, according to altLINE’s payroll-funding FAQ. Confirm the fee if payment takes longer.

altLINE factoring requirements & qualifications
altLINE emphasizes the quality of a business’s customers and receivables. Its homepage explicitly says its programs do not require an established operating history. A universal minimum personal credit score, annual revenue, factoring volume or invoice size was not established.

Documents commonly described in altLINE educational materials
- Completed application
- Outstanding invoices
- Accounts-receivable aging report
- Business bank account information
- Tax identification number
- Personal identification
- Customer information and payment history
Do not treat this as a universal mandatory checklist. These are commonly described factoring documents. Ask altLINE exactly what is required for your product, industry and requested facility.
Can a startup or business with weak credit qualify?
altLINE’s startup positioning gives new businesses a clearer reason to request a quote. It does not establish automatic approval or funding before eligible receivables exist. For a useful eligibility review, identify who owes you money, the amount outstanding, when payment is due and whether the work or delivery has been accepted.
For staffing, altLINE specifically emphasizes the debtor’s credit over the agency’s own credit. Ask which customers are approved and how much exposure is allowed to each. A strong total invoice balance may provide less usable funding if much of it belongs to one unapproved customer.

altLINE invoice factoring, freight factoring & other products
altLINE operates as a receivables-finance division of The Southern Bank Company and publishes several related products.
| Product | Published description | Comparison point |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice factoring | Direct bank-operated factoring against qualifying B2B invoices. | Confirm advance, fee schedule, recourse, monthly minimums, UCC/security and contract duration. |
| Accounts receivable financing | Receivables-based financing; altLINE distinguishes some A/R financing structures from factoring. | Ask whether the proposal is a purchase of receivables, revolving secured facility or another structure. |
| Freight factoring | Factoring for carriers / trucking companies, with same-day funding and near-full advance options advertised. | Confirm freight-specific rate, contract, minimums, recourse and broker/customer approval. |
| Payroll funding | Receivables funding designed for staffing companies and temp agencies. | Confirm advance, factoring fee, customer concentration and payroll timing. |

How altLINE payroll funding works for staffing agencies
The published process advances 80%–90% against submitted invoices, with the reserve released after customer payment and deduction of fees. altLINE identifies temporary and temp-to-hire agencies with ongoing employee payroll as a stronger use case than direct-hire placement or executive-search firms. Ask whether your billing cycle and customer approvals support the weekly cash needed for payroll.
Freight documentation and customer approval
altLINE’s freight guide describes submitting the invoice, rate confirmation and bill of lading after a completed load. This is educational guidance rather than a complete application checklist. Ask which delivery documents your account requires, how broker or shipper credit is approved, and whether a quoted near-full advance is before or after the factoring fee.
altLINE recourse factoring, UCC filings, guarantees & contract terms
This is one of the most important areas to confirm in writing because public disclosures are product-specific.
Recourse factoring
altLINE’s oil-and-gas materials state that the program uses recourse factoring, meaning the client may need to repay an advance if a customer fails to pay. Professional-services materials also describe recourse factoring.
UCC filing
Oil-and-gas and professional-services materials describe a UCC filing to secure altLINE’s interest in receivables. This makes existing bank, MCA, factoring and equipment-finance liens especially important to disclose.
Personal guarantee
A company-wide standard personal-guarantee requirement was not independently established. Ask what applies to your exact agreement rather than assuming one is required or waived.
Length, renewal & termination
A universal contract duration was not verified. Educational discussions of renewal and notice periods are not proof of altLINE’s standard contract. Request your agreement’s initial term, renewal date, notice deadline, delivery method and termination calculation.
Businesses with existing MCA balances or UCC liens should ask before applying. The research did not find a general altLINE policy confirming eligibility for stacked MCAs, active collections or receivables already subject to another creditor’s security interest.

What happens if a customer does not pay?
For a recourse offer, request the exact aging point or event that triggers a repurchase, chargeback or reserve deduction. Also ask how disputed invoices, short payments and customer offsets are handled. A customer’s late payment may affect both the fee and the amount available for future advances; your agreement should explain each consequence separately.
altLINE vs. FundThrough vs. Riviera Finance: what to compare
altLINE, FundThrough and Riviera Finance differ in funding structure, invoice selection, reserves and customer-credit protection. The comparison below uses their official disclosures. Suitability depends on your invoices and written offer; advertised rates are not directly comparable without the fee period and advance amount.

| Comparison point | altLINE | FundThrough | Riviera Finance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Provider model | Direct bank funding through The Southern Bank Company’s factoring division. | Online invoice-funding platform with selective invoice funding. | Full-service factoring combining funding, credit services and receivables administration. |
| Published pricing | General initial fee 0.5%–3.0%; confirm the initial period, increments and ancillary charges. | 1.9%–2.9% per 30 days for total outstanding invoices up to $999,999, subject to eligibility; custom pricing advertised above $1 million. | A predetermined percentage of invoice value; no universal numerical quote established from the reviewed service page. |
| Cash advanced | Standard range 80%–90%; reserve released after collection less fees. Freight terms can differ. | Up to 100% of invoice value, minus its fee. | Up to 95%, depending on industry and circumstances; confirm reserve release and fee deductions. |
| Eligibility focus | Customer credit and eligible receivables; established operating history is not required under advertised programs. | Completed-work B2B or government invoices to a creditworthy customer; its pricing page excludes construction and real estate and requires willingness to remove receivables liens. | Businesses with receivables; FAQ describes clients from startups to $2 million in monthly sales. This is a client-profile description, not a guaranteed facility limit. |
| Invoice choice and minimums | Confirm selective factoring, monthly commitments and fees for falling below agreed volume. | Choose customers and invoices. | Account support | Payroll program includes an account manager, onboarding help, customer checks and collection assistance. | Online platform, receivables collection support and account management. | Customer-credit checks, collections, payment posting and online account access through ROAM. |
| Geography | Markets to U.S. businesses; confirm your location and customer eligibility. | Describes serving U.S. and Canadian businesses. | FAQ expressly lists all 50 states and Canada. |
altLINE vs. FundThrough: reserves, flexibility and the cost period
The practical question is how much cash arrives now and how much each invoice costs by the time your customer pays. FundThrough’s advertised advance structure may leave less cash held in reserve. That alone does not establish a cheaper offer: altLINE’s initial fee and FundThrough’s per-30-day pricing use different descriptions.
For occasional funding, ask altLINE whether you can select invoices without a monthly commitment. With FundThrough, establish the first-funding requirement and confirm what happens to the fee if a customer pays early or late. For either provider, ask who contacts the customer, how remittance instructions change and whether an existing receivables lien must be released.
altLINE vs. Riviera Finance: who carries the customer-credit risk?
Riviera’s advertised non-recourse protection is a material point to examine alongside altLINE’s program-specific recourse terms. Ask both providers to explain the same scenarios: customer insolvency, a disputed delivery, an invoice credit and simple late payment. Get a written explanation of which events cause a chargeback and which are covered. The word “non-recourse” alone does not answer every contractual question.
For a staffing or freight business, also compare administrative work: invoice verification, customer approval, collection contacts and reserve reconciliation. Request a sample account statement and a named escalation contact. Faster funding is useful only when the provider can verify your invoices in time for your payment deadlines.
Compare the same $50,000 invoice at 30, 45 and 60 days
Give each provider an identical invoice and payment schedule. Request the opening cash advance, all fees at each payment date, remaining reserve and net proceeds. For illustration only, a 90% advance on $50,000 releases $45,000 before any upfront deductions and leaves a $5,000 reserve. A 100% advance less a hypothetical 2% fee releases $49,000. These calculations illustrate cash timing, not actual offers or a ranking.
- Separate recurring invoice fees from one-time setup charges.
- Ask whether fees apply to invoice face value or cash advanced and whether partial periods are rounded up.
- Include monthly shortfall fees, transfer costs and termination charges where applicable.
- Compare the written contract’s invoice-selection, recourse, lien-release and cancellation provisions.

altLINE by The Southern Bank Company: background & bank relationship
altLINE is a receivables-finance division of The Southern Bank Company, not a stand-alone business-loan marketplace or MCA debt-relief provider.
The Southern Bank Company
The bank describes a history beginning in 1936. BBB lists January 1, 1937 as the business start date for the entity in its profile. These are source-reported milestones and should not be silently treated as the altLINE brand’s founding date.
Birmingham factoring operation
The factoring office is associated with Birmingham, Alabama. BBB lists October 30, 2015 as the local business start date, while the exact date the altLINE brand began operating was not independently established.
Jim Pendergast · General Manager
Current company materials identify Jim Pendergast as General Manager of altLINE by The Southern Bank. A complete current leadership roster was not independently verified.
$2B+ in factored invoices
The homepage advertises more than $2 billion in factored invoices. MCA Shield treats this as a company-reported cumulative marketing figure, not an independently audited total.

altLINE application, onboarding & funding process
Public materials support a typical factoring process centered on the business, its invoices and the credit quality of the customers that owe those invoices.
Request a factoring quote
Provide initial information about the business, receivables, customers and funding need.
Provide business information
Application and supporting receivables information are reviewed.
Customer credit matters
altLINE evaluates invoice customers, payment history, aging and concentration risk.
Review receivables and documents
Program-specific underwriting and documentation are completed. A universal hard-versus-soft credit inquiry policy was not verified.
Review factoring terms
Confirm advance, fee schedule, recourse, UCC/security, minimums, cancellation and contract term before signing.
As little as 24 hours after setup*
altLINE advertises funding within 24 hours after a customer is established in its system, with some same-day options. New-client underwriting time is separate and was not universally established.
*Advertised funding timing is not a guarantee. Approval and onboarding can take additional time.
Prepare for customer verification and the first funding
Ask altLINE to confirm your approved customers, invoice-submission process and payment instructions before treating an invoice as available cash. For staffing, agree on the submission cutoff needed to meet payroll; for freight, confirm the delivery paperwork. Request separate estimates for account approval, customer onboarding and funding an already-approved invoice.
altLINE states served & industries
altLINE markets factoring across multiple U.S. states and a broad range of B2B industries, but the research did not establish a current authoritative all-50-state eligibility list.
Geographic availability
Company materials include market-specific pages in several states and describe nationwide commercial relationships. For publication, the safer summary is: multiple U.S. states; confirm availability by location.
Advertised industries
Staffing, trucking/freight, manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, professional services, consulting, oil and gas, government contracting, home healthcare, commercial cleaning, agriculture, education, food and beverage, apparel/textiles, security, telecommunications, startups and general B2B businesses.

altLINE customer service & contract considerations
altLINE advertises dedicated account support and customer-credit services, while several binding contract terms still require offer-specific confirmation.
Published service features
- Dedicated account management
- Customer credit evaluation
- Invoice collection assistance
- Online customer portal access
- Onboarding support
- Telephone contact
Contract details to verify in writing
- Standard contract length
- Monthly minimum volume or minimum fee
- Early termination fee
- Automatic-renewal language
- Renewal notice period
- Personal guarantee
- Product-specific recourse
- UCC scope and lien release
Do not publish “no monthly fees” as a blanket statement. The pricing guide advertises no monthly software-access fee, but company materials separately discuss monthly minimum-volume concepts. Those are different charges.
altLINE, The Southern Bank Company & FDIC / legal research
The Southern Bank Company’s bank identity was independently supported in the research, but that should not be turned into claims that factoring advances or receivables are FDIC-insured.
The Southern Bank Company
The research matched The Southern Bank Company in FDIC records and identified FDIC certificate 29731. This supports the existence of the bank behind altLINE.
FDIC deposit insurance is not factoring insurance
FDIC insurance applies to eligible deposits held at insured banks subject to applicable limits and rules. It does not mean factoring advances, invoices, receivables or customer payments are insured against loss.
Regulatory searches
The research did not identify a matched material CFPB, FTC or state-attorney-general enforcement action specifically involving altLINE, but this was not a comprehensive clearance of all regulatory history.
Litigation / licensing limits
Separate factoring-license requirements, NMLS identifier, complete court history, pending litigation and consent orders were not comprehensively verified. Do not interpret “not verified” as “does not exist.”
altLINE reviews, BBB rating, factoring rates & requirements FAQs
What is altLINE’s BBB rating?
BBB shows an A+ business rating and accreditation since October 19, 2017 in the research snapshot. That business grade is separate from customer-review ratings. See the BBB section.
How many BBB complaints does altLINE have?
The October 15, 2026 research snapshot showed one BBB complaint in the preceding three years and one in the preceding 12 months. BBB displayed the matter as Answered. Complaint counts can change.
What do altLINE reviews say?
The primary Trustpilot profile showed 4.4/5 from 69 reviews. Positive themes included communication, account support and working-capital help; mixed or negative feedback included onboarding delays and marketing communications. Individual reviews are not proof of typical results. Read the review analysis.
Is altLINE legit?
altLINE operates as a division of The Southern Bank Company, has a matched official website, an A+ BBB business profile and a matched Trustpilot profile. The parent bank’s identity was also supported in FDIC records. Those facts support that altLINE is an established operating business, but they do not guarantee approval, suitability, low cost or a particular outcome.
What are altLINE’s factoring rates?
altLINE’s pricing guide publishes a general initial factoring-fee range of 0.5%–3.0%, with pricing customized to the business and receivables. Industry-specific programs can use different ranges. See rates and fees.
What fees does altLINE charge?
Published examples include a typical $150–$500 origination fee, $0–$3 ACH fee and $15–$30 wire fee. The pricing guide advertises no lockbox, monthly software-access, customer-credit-approval, same-day funding or renewal fee, but monthly minimum-volume provisions and termination charges should still be confirmed in the actual agreement.
What are altLINE’s minimum factoring requirements?
altLINE explicitly says its programs do not require an established operating history. No universal minimum monthly revenue, factoring volume, invoice size or personal credit score was independently verified. Customer quality, invoice aging and concentration are important underwriting factors. See the requirements table.
Does altLINE offer recourse or non-recourse factoring?
Recourse factoring is explicitly described on certain industry pages, including oil and gas and professional services. The research did not establish one universal recourse policy across every altLINE product, so confirm your contract.
Does altLINE file a UCC?
altLINE explicitly describes UCC filings for certain industry programs, including oil-and-gas factoring. Businesses with existing UCC liens should ask how priority, subordination or payoff requirements apply to their exact agreement. See the contract section.
Does altLINE require a personal guarantee?
A standard company-wide personal-guarantee rule was not independently verified. Ask whether your exact factoring facility requires one and what obligations survive customer non-payment or termination.
How fast does altLINE fund?
altLINE advertises funding within 24 hours after a customer is established in its system and some same-day options. That should not be confused with the time required to approve and onboard a new client.
How does altLINE compare with FundThrough, Riviera Finance or eCapital?
Compare the same invoice profile across providers using advance rate, total cost, customer-credit approval, minimum volume, recourse, UCC/security, contract duration and cancellation rights. Open the alternatives section.
Who receives the MCA Shield invoice factoring inquiry?
MCA Shield receives it—not altLINE. The form is not an altLINE application and does not guarantee a referral, approval, rate, advance percentage or funding amount.
Does altLINE fund startups?
Its homepage explicitly says its programs do not require an established operating history. Approval still depends on the receivables and customer review; this does not promise funding for a business without eligible invoices.
Does altLINE payroll funding fit every staffing business?
altLINE identifies temporary and temp-to-hire staffing with recurring payroll as a strong use case. Its materials say direct-hire and executive-search firms may benefit less. Confirm the fit with your billing and payroll cycle.
